Michigan DNR very recently has purchased land in the counties of Ontonagon, Gogebic and three others from private land owners. This will help secure recreational trails (ATV and snowmobile and others) for years to come. One of the big concerns is getting trails taken away from recreational use from the private land owners that own them for various reasons.
When trails do get taken away it is usually because land owners have gotten tired of abuse from the users of those trails. And usually the abuse is users going “off trail”.
So we have to ask again for all users to stay on designated trails only. “Off trail” is permitted in some areas only. It is the users responsibility to know where those areas are. Please ask if you don’t know.
And …………. There are some trails where ATV’s are not allowed in summer months. Please respect those regulations.
