Please Help Us Take Care of The Trails:
Well, we’re now in our 5th year of
running our grooming entity, Gogebic Area Grooming,
and although we’re doing well we need your help now
more than ever.
Come fall we’ll be looking for man-hours to brush &
sign trails. Even with the trails all perfectly
signed at the time, we always seem to need to put
more up every year. Either the signs get stolen,
damaged or just plain too old and need replacing.
All this on over 157 miles of trails. Any amount of
help would be welcome.
But right now we’re in need of financial backing.
The membership dues we’ve established are minimal.
The dues are only $25.00 for an individual or $50.00
for a business. We’re also open to donations of any
amount.
These amounts will help in all the costs of running
a grooming entity, such as repairs, wages, fuel,
more repairs, insurance, parts, more repairs...you
get the idea… Checks can be mailed to the address
below.
We hope you enjoy our trails, our beautiful area and
we hope to hear from you soon.
Gogebic Area Grooming, Inc.
Box 13
Bergland, MI 49910.
We
thank you ahead of time for all your support.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming, one more time for the season:
We are officially finished with grooming as of today, however trails in wooded areas continue to remain in good condition. In and around towns and wherever trails directly cross roadways you’ll find bare conditions. Use caution when crossing streams or creeks along trails as they are beginning to open up. Lots of snowmobilers find “trailering” out, to link up directly with trails that run through the wooded areas, is the way to go. That way you avoid the bare pavement runs.
Trails officially close this Sunday in the Upper Peninsula, so get out and enjoy one more time on the trail. We wish to thank all of you who chose our area to ride in this last winter and hope to see you all up our way again soon. Perhaps a summer or fall trip to Lake Gogebic? You won’t believe how beautiful this area can be….even without snow.
Please read the message to the left; we need your support to keep making these trails some of the best in the U.P. Membership, donations or both can be sent to:

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Trail conditions in the Lake Gogebic are in good condition following a heavy snowfall of 8 to 12-inches of new snow over Monday night. Groomers are out on all trails today, however with the temperatures expected to begin rising through the week we will be going to night grooming only. We fully expect to continue to groom until our April 6th extension.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming:
We are currently under a winter storm warning with snow totals of up to 14-inches expected by early afternoon on Tuesday. This is not an April Fools Joke…really. Strong winds along with heavy snow (we should expect 1 to 2-inches an hour overnight) are creating some dangerous driving conditions. I’ll post more on the storm and what we’ve received on Tuesday. We’re still grooming, especially with this latest snowfall.

Hi, this is Carolyn at the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern here on beautiful Lake Gogebic Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Trails in the Lake Gogebic area are still in good condition, with the exception of trails in and around towns and trails just off of main roadways where salt and sand is dragged onto the trails. We still have plenty of snow and the groomers have been out with night grooming only, at this time. We have received an extension to continue grooming until April 6th if conditions allow, so it’s not over yet! Next weeks forecast looks like nighttime temperatures will remain mostly in the teens so grooming is likely to continue until next weekend. We also have predictions for additional snowfall until April 6th, so this is the time to come and enjoy some great trail riding with milder daytime temperatures and almost no one to share the trails with.
Gogebic Area Grooming would like to thank WUPM/WHRY for posting our trail conditions all winter. We do look forward to another good year in the 2008/2009 season with more great trail riding for all of you.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming:
We’re still experiencing mid-winter weather…very cold and snow off and on. Over the past couple of days we’ve picked up about an inch or so more snow. Trails are holding up really well with the cold weather, although trails in and around town are spotty at best. Groomers are still running where needed and we have received a grooming extension until April 6th if conditions allow. The weather forecast for next week shows a warm up into the high 30’s and low 40’s, so grooming through next week may not happen. If you still want one more ride for the season this is the time to come. Your best bet for a good ride are trails that mainly stay in wooded areas. These would be all trails but 8 west and especially 8 east with its full exposure to the sun.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Conditions have allowed all three of our groomers to continue grooming on all of our trails. That, along with some very cold night temperatures have given us some really great trail conditions. Our trails in should remain in good condition all through this week with forecasts of highs in the low to mid 30’s and night time temperatures in the teens. Snowfall predictions for this next week have us receiving snow 5 out of the next 7 days.
You most likely will have to deal with some bare conditions in and around towns and where trails cross roadways. Hopefully with the snowfall predictions we won’t have to worry about that for long. Logging is finished for this season so with the new snow cover it should make a big improvement where some areas were plowed down for the logging.
Just remember, we will continue to groom as long as conditions allow and the conditions we’re looking at for the next week should ensure another full week of snowmobiling at and around Lake Gogebic.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Trails in the Lake Gogebic area are in good condition with groomers continuing to run on all trails. You may find bare conditions in towns and where trails run directly off roadways. The best conditions will most likely remain wooded areas, where the snow stays protected from wind and sun. The weather looks positive through the upcoming weekend with snowfall predictions for Saturday. Next week shows a warm up in temperatures, however there are more predictions for snowfall as well, so maybe we’ll be able to hold on to snowmobiling through all of March. Snowmobilers are still giving us rave reviews for our trails so take advantage of the good conditions and enjoy our beautiful area.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Trails in the Lake Gogebic area are mostly in good condition at this time. We’re expecting temperatures in the low to mid 30’s for most of this week, but we should have mostly cloudy conditions along with more snowfall. Nights are expected to drop well below zero, which will really help us keep the snow we already have. Groomers are working to push more snow into the icy corners to make them safer to ride. Trail 1, in the area between Bergland and Merriweather, gets a lot of extra traffic so maybe barer than other trails in the area. Groomers are running day and night at this time but will be reduced to night runs if the temperatures get too high.
With luck we’ll pull off at least one more week of snowmobiling, but remember it’s common to have late March or even April snow storms. We will continue to groom as long as conditions allow, so be sure to make your plans now to get out and enjoy our beautiful scenery.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
The recent snowfall of 4-inches or so over our area did help with the trail conditions, but continue to be aware of icy conditions on most trails and especially on corners. You will need to slow your speeds accordingly. Our local forecast is calling for highs only into the low 30’s for this weekend with low temperatures as low as single digits.
Over this next week daytime temperatures may curtail any daytime grooming, but we will continue to groom over night. We have predictions for snowfall 4 out of the next 6 days, which should help keep the trails fresh. Conditions on trails further away from road crossings or towns will be the best for a smooth ride.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming:
We received approximately 4 to 5-inches of new snow over last night, giving us just what we needed for the icy conditions we were experiencing on the trails. Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming:
Although we’ve had a couple of days in the 30’s and trails in and directly around towns are pretty brown – trails over most of the Lake Gogebic area are in very good condition. Snowmobilers in our area are reporting “trails are in fantastic condition…best they’ve ridden!” Temperatures are expected to drop down into the low 30’s for highs and mostly teens for over night over the next 10 day forecast. We also have snow in the forecast for tonight through Saturday and again next week. Cloud coverage today has kept much of the side-road snow from melting, but watch out for icy conditions. Remember, daytime melting conditions can equal nighttime icy ruts…so please use caution. If we get the expected 3-inches of snow tonight it will really help with the icy conditions, so cross your fingers. But honestly guys, the trails are awesome! Someone actually said that the trails were smoother than the roads! So come on up and enjoy less crowds, great scenery and fantastic trails!

But the forecast is looking good for next weekend, with colder temperatures and snowfall, so don’t put your snowmobiles away just yet. This is really a great time of year to get out on the trails to enjoy our beautiful scenery and maybe view some wildlife. Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming:
Trail conditions in the Lake Gogebic area are in good condition, although very icy in some areas. Make sure to allow for these conditions and slow speeds accordingly. Temperatures for the remainder of the week are looking good – highs in the 20’s and teens with occasional snow. Groomers are still running around the clock on all trails. There is still time for plenty of great snowmobiling during this last month of winter so be sure to make plans to come and enjoy our beautiful area.
Again, we are cautioning all snowmobilers to please use the designated trail crossing the railway tracks in Bergland near the lake. Sleds running anywhere else on the tracks can cause derailment when the snow and ice pack in the rails. Law enforcement will be monitoring this area, so save yourself a ticket and stay on the trail.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Following a period of rain on Sunday our trails have some very icy spots, but all in all they are in good to very good condition. More snow is in our forecast for most of the next week with colder temperatures so our trails should be back to great shape very soon. All 3 of our groomers are out and running on all trails.
The forecast looks really good for another weekend of great snowmobiling into the second weekend of March. We want to remind you that we have groomed as late as the 10th of April in the past, so we could conceivably have another month of snowmobiling to look forward to. This time of year is a real favorite among many snowmobilers as the crowds thin, the weather is usually milder and the trails are fantastic. Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming:
Trail conditions in the Lake Gogebic area in very good condition, after a total accumulation over the last week of approximately 6-inches or more. Temperatures have been very cold over the last couple of days, giving us great conditions to really pack the trails down good. Watch for icy conditions on most corners and slow speeds accordingly.
Temps may be warming up briefly on Sunday but then we’re expecting highs to drop back into the low 20’s for most of the next week. Grooming will be continuing into March, hopefully all the way to April. Remember that this time of year is always great for snowmobiling with somewhat milder weather, less crowds and well groomed trails, so be sure to come up for at least one more ride of the season.
Again, we are cautioning all snowmobilers to please use the designated trail crossing the railway tracks in Bergland near the lake. Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
The Lake Gogebic trail system is in excellent condition. All three groomers are running on all trails, giving them a double groom almost daily. Temperatures are expected in the mid 20’s for highs for much of this next week with additional snowshowers. This should give us more great conditions for snowmobiling. However, we ask that you please slow down on corners as we have reports of some icy conditions on quite a few.
We would like to make mention of some damage done to much of trail 1 south by someone running their sled crosswise over the trail, digging deep ruts into the trail. This was done over several spots on this trail and has created a lot of extra work for the groomers. If anyone has any information about this your asked to please call George at 906-575-5555.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
The trails in the Lake Gogebic area continue to be kept in excellent condition. All three groomers are running non-stop on all trails daily. We have plenty of snow on our entire trail system, running all the way from the Michigan/Wisconsin border, just north of Presque Isle, to near Rockland and White Pine. Weather predictions are calling for normal conditions for the remainder of February and into March. Hopefully we’ll have a season that extends all the way to April! March is a great time to snowmobile in our area as there is usually plenty of snow along with warmer temperatures and less crowds.
Continue to watch for logging on a small portion of trails 1 north and 13 south. Please give the logging trucks plenty of room while traveling through these areas and obey all signs, for your safety as well as others. Also, we will continue to remind snowmobilers to cross railroad tracks only on designated trail crossings.

Reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Lake Gogebic trails are in excellent condition. All 3 of our groomers have been keeping up with the amount of traffic we’ve been experiencing with no problem. All trails continue to receive a double groom almost daily, with some trails receiving even more.
Parts of the Lake Gogebic area have received upwards of 6-inches of fresh snow over this last weekend. Weather predictions are calling for additional snowfall over the next few days with temperatures normal for this time of year. With the amount of snow we have on the ground now, plus the forecast for more snow and cold temperatures over the next 10 days, it’s looking very favorable for some great riding well into March.
At this point in the season there are no problems to report on any of our trails, they are well groomed, signed very well and a real pleasure to ride. Continue to watch for logging on trail 1 north and 13 south through the season. Also, be sure to stay on the designated trails where they cross any railroad tracks, for your safety as well as others.

Hi, this is Carolyn at the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern here on beautiful Lake Gogebic, reporting on trail conditions for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Trail conditions in the Lake Gogebic area in very good condition. We’ve got the snow, we’ve got the cold and we’ve got the groomers (3) to keep our trails in top shape. It’s almost time for our weekly snowstorm, with a big storm predicted from Sunday night (tonight) through Monday night, with accumulations expected to reach another 10-inches of snow. The
heaviest amounts of snow should fall over the higher elevation areas on our northern most trails, although all of our trails have plenty of snow for good riding.
We want to warn sledders of a small wet area on the trail running from Merriweather to Bergland. It’s about a ¼ mile east of where trails 102, 1 and 8 connect. The guys should be out working on this problem area by Monday so be sure to watch out for them and ensure safe conditions for everyone. You might want to stop and offer some help, I’m sure it would be appreciated.
Again, we need to caution all snowmobilers to please use the designated trail crossing the railway tracks in Bergland near the lake. Sleds running anywhere else on the tracks can cause derailment when the snow and ice pack in the rails. Law enforcement will be monitoring this area, so save yourself a ticket and stay on the trail.

The following trail report is brought to you courtesy of Gogebic Area Grooming:
Lake Gogebic trails are in excellent condition. Groomers have been keeping up with the amount of traffic we’ve been experiencing with no problem. All trails continue to receive a double groom almost daily, with some trails receiving even more grooms. There are really no problems to report on our trails at this point of the season. You may encounter icy conditions on some corners, but this is a common occurrence wherever you go. We thank you all for your kind words of praise of our trail system. It really makes all the hard work well worth it.
Weather forecasts look favorable for snowmobiling over the weekend. We have predictions for additional snow for Saturday through this next Tuesday. With the recent snowfall earlier this week of 6 –10-inches of snow it’s looking very good that snowmobiling should run well into March.
Continue to watch for logging on trail 1 north and 13 south though the season. Also, be sure to stay on the trail and off the railroad tracks in Bergland where this continues to be a problem.
That’s all for now, for continued trail updates as conditions change or for additional information on the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit our chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (or 888-Gogebic). All of us here at Lake Gogebic wish you the very best, as well as safe, trip and hope you enjoy your ride here on some of the best trails you’ll find. As always, Gogebic Area Grooming wishes you a great ride and a great day!

The following trail report is brought to you courtesy of Gogebic Area Grooming.
Well, we had a great storm this last weekend, which probably only brought us about 6-inches of new snow, but we had wind gusts of about
50-mph along with well below zero temps! Not the best riding condition but a few braved the elements and were out sledding anyway. Trail conditions are excellent. These really cold temperatures are packing the snow nice and hard and groomers are running almost constantly.
Temperatures are expected to rise to a more normal range this week with additional snowfall almost everyday. We’re expecting a busy weekend with the Monday holiday coming up, so please watch out for families with young ones out on the trails.
Again, we need to caution all snowmobilers to please use the designated trail crossing the railway tracks in Bergland near the lake. Sleds running on the tracks can cause derailment when the snow and ice pack in the rails. Law enforcement will be monitoring this area, so save yourself a ticket and stay on the trail.
That’s all for now, for continued trail updates as conditions change or for additional information on the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit our chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (or 888-Gogebic). From all of us here at Lake Gogebic we’re wishing you a great ride and a great day!

Congratulations to Renee Woodford of Champlin, MN on her win of $300.00 from the Lake Gogebic “Fun Run”. The Fun Run took place over the week of January 4th to the 13th as part of the “Sled Fest” celebration. Both events were a great success and we look forward to next years Sled Fest. Thanks you to all the entrants who participated.

Hi, this is Carolyn at the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern here on beautiful Lake Gogebic bringing you your trail report for Gogebic Area Grooming.
Lake Gogebic trails are in very good condition with double grooms daily on each trail. Conditions this time of year are usually good and this year is no exception. All trails in the Lake Gogebic area are in excellent shape with the best signing to help you find you’re way with no trouble on our 157 miles of trails. We do caution snowmobilers to watch for icy conditions on some corners and slow speeds accordingly.
We do have a forecast for blizzard conditions over this weekend so please use caution while sledding. Travel may be hazardous with white out conditions.
We have been informed that logging will continue for the remainder of the season on trails 1 north and 13 south. This only affects a small portion of each trail and the area is ride-able. Please use caution, obey all signing and give the trucks the right of way at all times. Also, remember to come to a complete stop at all stop signs before proceeding. Failure to do so can result, at the very least, in a ticket with a fine.

Recent snowfall of approx. 6-inches or more this last Tuesday gave us plenty of snow to keep the trails in excellent condition. Local weather forecasts are predicting very cold temperatures along with lake effect snow this weekend, so be sure to dress in layers and protect any skin from the elements to ward off frostbite.
All three groomers are running almost constantly, double grooming all trails. Watch out for icy conditions on some corners and slow speeds accordingly.
We have been informed that logging will continue for the remainder of the season on trails 1 north and 13 south. This only affects a small portion of each trail and the areas are ride-able. Please use caution, obey all signing and give the trucks the right of way at all times. Also, make sure to come to a full stop at all stop signs on the trails. Law enforcement will ticket failure to do so, not to mention how dangerous it is to ignore these signs.
That’s all for now, for continued trail updates as conditions change or for additional information on the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit our chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (or 888-Gogebic).
